Golden Wattle is a Father (Mark) & Son (Demitri) owned and run business built from Demitri’s love of coffee, yummy food and comfy spaces. It’s tucked away in the heart of Wandin North, in the corner behind the newly renovated PJ Mould community park.
Having trained at KP Excercise and Fitness, the studio & gym next door for 6 years, Demitri missed his go-to cafe next door and having gained several years experience as a Barista, Head Barista and Cafe Supervisior, Golden Wattle is his chance to step out, be his own boss and bring some life back to the building.
When deciding on a name, we really wanted to lean into the beautiful location. The Yarra Valley is a gorgeous, iconic area in Victoria, and what reflects that better than our own native icon, the Wattle Tree. It was so easy to go from there designing logos, creating patterns for our outdoor furniture, and it gave Demitri a good focal point to work with when he drew up the design for the native flora mural on the back wall. The mural was something we had in mind from the moment we chose the name, and it was lovingly painted by the talented Atlas Rickard
We had one goal in mind during the renovation of the cafe: To curate a comfotable, cozy space. Luckily we inherited the iconic red coffee machine and the stunning wooden live-edge tables from the original cafe, and these gave us a good starting point.
The idea of having a couch and coffee table was something that was very exciting to us and really added to the comfort. When we happened across the green velour couch and green tile coffee table we knew we had a winning combination.
